Institutional research, built for investors outside the institution.
Financial Trends Australia exists to take a quantitative research methodology developed over decades, inside academia and on the institutional desk, and put it in the hands of the investors who were never given access to it.
Where we came from. Why we exist.
Financial Trends Australia was founded to make institutional-grade quantitative research accessible beyond the institutional desk.
Professor Stewart Jones has spent over three decades developing quantitative models for financial distress prediction and credit risk at the University of Sydney. His published work spans 160+ scholarly articles and seven Australian Research Council grants. The frameworks he built were adopted by institutions making capital allocation and credit decisions.
The problem was access. The same analytical rigour that institutional desks relied on was unavailable to investors outside of those desks, whether managing personal capital, a family office, or a self-managed fund.
In 2024, Henry Jones, with a background in equity capital markets and investor relations, saw the opportunity to take a research methodology built for institutions and make it available to a broader set of investors in a format they could act on.
Financial Trends Australia is the result. A research platform built by the people who developed the methodology, delivered directly to the investors who use it.
Three principles we do not compromise on.
Every recommendation follows the Alpha360 score. When scores drop, we downgrade. When scores re-rate, we upgrade. The editorial layer explains the data. It never overrides it.
Each score is backed by a hard number or a named peer comparison. "Compared to peers" is banned from every report we publish. We name them, and we show the numbers.
Members see the same scores we use to make decisions. The methodology is published. The track record is public. If we are wrong, you will know exactly where and why.
Two decades from academic research to live investment platform.
