Co-Founder & Chief Research Officer
Prof. Stewart Jones
FASSA; Ph.D; FCPA

The intellectual engine behind Financial Trends Australia. For more than three decades, one of Australia’s most respected and influential figures in accounting, financial reporting, and credit risk research. A Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (FASSA), a distinction reserved for scholars who have made sustained, nationally significant contributions to their discipline. Serves as Head of the Accounting Discipline at the University of Sydney Business School and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Abacus, one of the world’s leading accounting and finance journals.

His research spans corporate bankruptcy prediction, credit risk modelling, international accounting standards, sustainability and climate-risk disclosure, and the application of modern statistical learning and machine-learning methods to real financial decision-making. It is grounded in rigorous econometrics, validated across decades of data, and designed to explain how markets actually behave under stress.

He has published over 160 scholarly works, including nearly 80 refereed journal articles and more than 20 books, many of which are considered foundational texts in the field. His research leadership is further evidenced by seven Australian Research Council grants and numerous competitive industry grants, reflecting long-standing confidence in both the relevance and integrity of his work.

At Financial Trends Australia, his role is singular: to ensure the research engine is methodologically sound, empirically defensible, and intellectually uncompromising. Alpha360 draws directly on the frameworks, empirical insights, and decades of research he has developed and refined. The platform is not built on narratives or back-fitted signals. It is built on a lifetime of serious research into how accounting information, risk, and corporate failure actually work.
